Woodland management on the remote peninsula of Knoydart is an excellent example of community-led, landscape-scale rainforest restoration and expansion, with community benefit at its heart.

The Balmacara Estate, owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland, is a beautiful mosaic of open heathland, scattered with birch woodland and some significant areas of oak and hazel rainforest, next to the coast near Kyle of Lochalsh in Ross-shire. 

Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape is based in the far north west of Scotland, a partnership of community, charity and private landowners working together.

Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust is working with the community of Glen Creran (near Appin) to deliver a landscape-scale approach to controlling rhododendron.
