Partners are working together to regenerate and reconnect ancient Caledonian pine fragments and surviving rainforest remnants in this area that is also important for its freshwater, peatland and mountain environments.

The Sunart Rainforest project encompasses a mix of open hill ground, rainforest habitat and commercial forestry. The project aims to restore and expand rainforest habitat within an 8,000ha area.

This iconic landscape attracts about half a million visitors every year. Spanning 22,000 acres, the Nevis Nature Network project area covers a vast array of native habitats, from ancient rainforest along the River Nevis, up to rare montane scrub on mountain cliffs.

Appin is widely recognised as a leading example of rainforest restoration in Scotland. The woods are part of a mosaic of habitats that are free of invasive species, and a diverse range of native tree species is securing a future for the rainforest.

This is a 30-year collaboration between the Assynt Foundation and the Woodland Trust, seeking to support community wellbeing and livelihoods through ecosystem interventions at landscape scale.

Nestled on the West Coast of Scotland, the Craignish peninsula is a stunning landscape rich in cultural heritage and biological diversity. It is home to some of the last remaining fragments of Scotland’s ancient rainforest with abundant lichens and mosses unique to this habitat.

This exciting project, led by Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority (NPA), will help to protect and enhance Loch Lomond’s rainforest – an important natural asset in tackling the twin crises of nature loss and the climate emergency.

Home to around 3000 people, the Isle of Mull forms part of the Inner Hebrides and is located off the west coast of Scotland. It is a dramatic island landscape shaped by its people, ancient volcanic forces and Atlantic weather systems. It offers a rich mosaic of habitats, including some good examples of Scotland’s rainforest.
